Aw, Sunday again, and I haven´t stopped yet. Usual household chores, some wood chopping and with the return of winter, also snow cleaning. My poor old car won´t start, the battery is weak, fortunately my son will take care of it (re-charging). Until then, no shopping.
I was looking forward to reading and watching some DVD, however I haven´t had a chance yet. I spend all the time sitting and proof reading. I accepted it as an extra-work for the Czech-Moravian Breeding Company, it is highly professioonal and all about the cattle. Cows, calves, bulls, breeding, feeding, cross-breeding, embryotransfers, moooo,mooooooooooo.........I even had dreams about the cows. My husband invited me for a visit to our winter shed to have a look at some newborn animals. They are always very sweet but their mothers are very protective too - first a warning mooooo and then you run like hell! Never harm anyone, only threaten, but it is better to be on the safe side of the fence.
I will try to make some pictures.
BTW it si snowing again and HARD.

Your cows sound like our sheep, normally very placid, they will eat out of your hand if you offer them a biscuit or and apple, but if they have young with them they are more likely to eat your hand if you get too close. It promises snow here next Tuesday and Wednesday and I am hopeing it comes so it will be over and done with for me to go to Redemption at the end of February.

Dairy cattle or beef cattle?

My eldest did a countryside management course and a few odd details stick in my mind. I remember him saying that beef bulls were okay, but dairy bulls were very dangerous.

Is that the case? (is it the same for the mothers?)

Well, I asked. The answer is : depends a lot on a sort of cattle, the holstein is more temperament in dairy farming, yes. However possible problems are not serious. I was also said that today, dairy farming is based more on insemination without the actual presence of a bull.

I can tell you one biiiig personal experience: if a woman has her days, a bull can smell it from an incredibly distant place and runs to her like a fast train and the woman has to jump over a fence and hop in a pickup with her husband driving like mad and than she has to listen to his :I TOLD YOU SO!:)

It sounds like a busy time! I hope that you'll have a chance for quiet time soon!

I hope that the snowfall doesn't mean further disruption for your shopping plans... Is it very thick?

There were spells of very thick snowfall, one moment it was funny because instead of proper snowflakes, there were tiny balls, like polystyren.
Now there is really strong wind, here in the town people almost don“t notice. At home, our house is in the open and the wind is strong enough to push you.
Shopping plans put off...

Ah, dear, all cancelled, such a STRONG wind here, it came yesterday in the afternoon and sent some tiles flying from a barn. It is fixed but there was no visit and the wind is even stronger today. It always brings a change in weather - the question is - warmer or colder?
