Well, I am supposed to be at home and enjoy my holiday. Ha! Someone has to go to work once a week to collect e-mails and other things. My boss is in the Eire with her husband, so it is me. I was really glad to go, fed up with all household chores,with miserable weather and our erratic (said mildly!) net here. I did a lot of cataloging , then invited my former colleague for lunch, talked a lot and I almost missed my bus. The weather was reasonable in the evening, so i went shooting. I began 30m now, it is horrible and on the top of that I lost two arrows! I spent lots of time looking but they BOTH disappeared mysteriously. I had to return, so I will try and look tomorrow...

That reminded me of a poem...

So I looked it up--I was pleased to find the whole thing because I'd only seen the first 2 lines in quotations.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Arrow And The Song

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

I thought you would like it-- it's a classic poem, probably everyone in English speaking countries knows the first 2 lines.

Oh, I do like it, and I like Hiawatha so much but in our country Lonfellow is not known, only when the students go through the world literature. In my teens, I was obssessed with the First Nations, American Indians, I even wanted to study ethnography.There was nothing to get and then I was only a beginner of English, so I found Longfellow in the library, forgotten. And then I read JFCooper.

There's so MUCH on the internet these days, you can spend years just discovering new things.
