Winter and soup
Jan. 4th, 2009 05:39 pmThis first weekend of 2009 presented us with a breath of COLD! The temperatures kept dropping to minus 11-12°C on Friday and Saturday night, 5-6°C during the day. Half of the wood in the cellar gone (in less then a week!). However we all are happy because the new windows really can keep the warmth in a way we didn´t see before.
Now the temperature is rising to only minus one (immediate info), it is windy and overcast and it looks like snowing. We´ll see!
I can feel a change of the pressure ( always) and I am cold though it is warm enough here. I decided to make soup - the boys will like it too, I suppose, for dinner. After this Christmas feasting, it will be a good change!
We call the soup "zelňačka" - made of cabbage. Actually not of "green" cabbage but of sauercraut. My, home-made one! I chop some root vegetables (carrot, celery, parsley) and a small onion and roast it on oil. In the meantime I boil about 1-1,5l water. Add the vegetable in, together with some rape-seed, salt and Masox (our best de-hydrated beef bouillon) and let boil. In the meantime I boil about 1litre of sauercraut shortly. I will use it without that water. And I chop some spiced saussages. As soon as the vegetable is all right, I add sauercraut and saussages and sweet dried paprica. And boil shorty. I also add thickener. Sometimes we change paprika for sour cream and add chopped potatoes to the vegetables. It is NOT bortsch!!! It WARMS you and it is low in calories.
I am quite warm now! :-)
