Today at half past two a.m. I was sitting in my bad, listening to a wild howling of the wind outside and a mad staccatto of the rain against  our new windows  and I said aloud:" WE WERE LUCKY!"
"What?" my husband murmured, " is it morning?"
I waited a nanosecond until he fell asleep, and I actually got up, went to the window and tested with my arm : THERE WAS NO DRAUGHT!
I returned to bed again, discovered Tygr on my duvet, sneaked under not to disturb him and fell asleep too.
Now it is still very windy, snow on its way and a drastic cold - they promise  minus 13°C!!! Well, we are prepared! (I hope). :-):-)

You were lucky to get every thing done before winter set in. I remember moving back in here to look after Mam and wishing I could do something about the draft under the door. But it was still her house and not for me to interfere, and she had lived with it all her life and no longer even noticed it.. Our blue penant sandstone doesn't stand up to wear very well and 180 odd years of people standing on the steps to come in and out had worn a dip I could push my hand under the door through. Being draft free is the most wonderful feeling and it was the first thing I had fixed when I inherited here.

180 years!Well, I think not only sandstone would show the marks of ¨living in the house! Awesome!*Grins* Our house is only 25 years old...

Added to which it was the village inn when it was first built, it had 20 years of high traffic before the Lady of the Manor decided pubs were bad for her tenants and tuned it in to just a house.

So how did you fix it? Relevel the step or shape the bottom of the door?

Um...actually we had problems with windows - there were holes in the frames and I had to use Blue Tec to stuff it there because the wooden frames were rotten and the windows wouldn´t open. Two of them were fixed with big nails - my doing, of course, and 15 years ago during a windstorm because I was home alone and the bloody things were about to fall at me.
I know it sounds like we lived in horrible conditions - it was just the windows which were of a poor quality from the very beginnig. There were times in my country you were able to get only one kind of a thing...take or leave. We took - and the windows wouldn´t even close properly. Now I am endlessly happy - we will save money for heating and they look beautiful and I even can open them! :-):-)
The doors are realtively all right.

Re-leveled the step. I had a new PVC double glazed front door put in and to fix the bottom seal they had to put about a 4 inch wide two/three inch deep(at the centre)dollop of concrete in the middle of the step to level it off. Nothing was needed ay either side.

Very chilly, and I was worried about the -2˚C they are promising here for tomorrow night.

Yes, and at the moment I had to switch the PC off, we had a wild storm with lightnings!

I like a well ventilated room, but a draught leaves everyone uncomfortable. I'm glad the work was finished before the winter set in.

Ooh very lucky, indeed. I don't mind the cold when it's outside - but inside has to be draught free! Especially when it's minus 13C... ouch. :-) Stay warm and dry!!
