Well, December is here and with it, the Cambridge Exams of English for non-native speakers. Every year, there are two terms, in December and in June.
Our British Centre organises CEX for the University of Cambridge and believe me, it is RESPONSIBLE! I am always a nervous wreck, we prepare everything very carefully but as you know, you never know :-)
There is a lot of paperwork but also demanding work with the candidates of all ages, professions and levels of English.
We provide full service including leading the exams, Supervising, invigilating and securing the answers, which go sealed straight to Cambridge for evaluation. All this means whole Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday from the very morning to the evening with the candidates and papers. We have got 215 candidates of all levels apart from proficiency level, there are always only 2-1 candidates and these must take the exams in Prague.
So I may be away for some time or will just write a little... if you can keep your fingers for us, pleeeeeease? :-):-)

Fingers duly crossed. The educationalist here were telling us at one time that English had ceased to be the Lingua Franca of the world but from what you write they were wrong. Between the old British Empire and the present American sphere of influence English is known in so many different countries that I think given time and a continuation of the present state of affairs English could be come the common tongue of the galaxy, difficult, idiomatic and crazy though it is.

Thank you! You would be surprised, English here beats German even at language schools and in use - which is again one of the negative traits of Czech nature - to cancell TOTALLY seemingly unuseful things. This happened to Russian - and now everyone who can use it, is paid in gold. German - speaking countries are our neighbours and we cooperate in trade, culture etc. so this approach is illogical.
However after years of ignorancy towards foreign languages, I am pleased to see our people to be able to communicate in English better and more.
Besides, I myself quit learning German because it sounded too hard to me, while English is very melodious! And, of course, very difficult.

It would seem the more melody there is in a language the more difficult it is to learn. To hear Welsh , especially North welsh, spoken by a native speaker is to hear song but to try to learn it in later life is impossible it makes English look simple, like baby talk. Even I managed to learn enough German to navigate my family around Yugoslavia back in the 70s and that was 10 years after I stopped learning it at school. It is a simple logical and easy language to learn but every word sounds like a curse it is so harsh on the ears.
