You probably know that there is no gas. Just the games of the politicians, damn it. Sorry. I am safe but what about those poor people in Bulgaria - or elswhere?
And, forgive me, we (Czechs) are making a very poor impression in Brusels with that "piece of art". One Czech artist managed to offend lots of European countries...So grrrr.

The piece of art passed me by, whatever it was! I'm glad you have gas, anyway.

Thank you.

Oh, I got curious and googled--I think this is what you mean?

*headshake* I bet the artist got a lot of money for that, and some one in the government either approved the collection of negative stereotypes or were misled by the artist (oh, it will be symbols representing each nation.)

Wow, no wonder people are upset! Apart from the Bulgaria (a very nasty dig at a very poor country) it does have a humour though.

I think as art, it's ok, but putting it to hang where official representatives of those countries will have to see it every time they come in to conference... well, I can't see it making them feel very friendly and cooperative.

And that is what I agree with.

Exactly. The worst thing - this was supposed to be a collective project of 27 artists representing their countries - however it appeared that they are fictional and that the artist lied!!! How on earth was he able to get this job? Someone from the "powers that be" must have approved this...but who? :-)

*headshake* I really think they should demand back whatever money was paid. And donate it to some worthy cause in Bulgaria, who got the nastiest symbol.

Italy got off lightly. And I admit to quite liking the Dracula theme park one.

I read that the supply of gas is expected to be returned overnight. Fingers crossed that this is true. But that "piece of art", oh dear, what were those in charge of this project thinking? Bulgaria suffers again. No gas supply and now the country is depicted as a squat toilet in this sculpture.

Indeed. I am really ashamed!Typically, no one is responsible. Well, the harm has been done, and expect our representatives to apologise.

Nobody told me it was an airfix kit. And you can see where Britain would have been. As a temporary art work, I think I'm going to be awkward and like it.

I like it too! I think the Polish one is inspired.

I believe the original idea was to "needle" the every single country - but as I have mentioned, the timing is not good and the thing is considered not as "art" but politically...

Well, under the present circumstances this thing became quite sensitive. Normally it would be just "art" and people would discuss it as usual. And I am still angry with that man because he lied.

It sounded earlier today as though the gas will be restored very soon? I'm very much hoping so....

Yesterday news were like a sad comedy: Russia opened the gas but after 7 hours it stopped. They said that the Ukraine is still stealing the gas and that there is no pressure in the system. Russia accuses the Ukraine and vice versa. Putin offered his apologies but this doesn´t help. So far, no gas.

Well, I certainly see the humor, but I also see the offensiveness of some--sort of like one of my favorite TV shows: "South Park."

Yes, I think this is close. You know, I believe I am personally more angry with this artist because he cheated, and with our representaives, who play the possum (is this right?).

I'm not quite sure 'playing possum' is quite the meaning you want-- to 'play possum' is to 'lie low' pretending you're dead, or asleep when you're threatened, or likely to be bothered, but somehow it doesn't seem to fit the circumstance.

Possibly because the inference is that you *will* rise up suddenly and either attack or run & I suspect your representatives will do neither.

Maybe 'burying their heads in the sand' would be more what you want, because that implies willfully ignoring reality in the hope it will eventually go away.

Ah, yes, thank you very much, I understand it perfectly now!And you understand our representatives as well:-):-)

I think most politicians all over the world are very similar. :^)

Yes, that's good, except we'd probably say "playing opossum." (Hiding till the danger of being blamed is gone.) How did the artist cheat?

He prresented this project as an international one, with 27 other arrtists participating (obviously from those pictured countries), so he got the money - really very, very big sum - but now it has appeared that they are only fictional. And none of the representatives admits a piece of responsibility - in a very embarrassing way...
Thanks for the explanation :-)
