Today a new History Today arrived at our library. I discovered a very tempting article/invitation for  a "celebration of 500th anniversary of Henry VIII´s accession to the English throne". Ha! It will be held in Hampton Court. The Palace undertook a lot of changes for the sake of it - opening new rooms, new designs in the garden, lots of items on display, lots of popular or academic seminars, original music AND what I would like to experience very much, a chance for the visitors to wear Tudor gowns and be involved in the imitation of the court life. And the exhibition about Henry´s wives, actors imitating the king and the court etc. I have the magazine open here to use the expressions. All begins in April 10th .
Oh yes, I would like to take par! I was in Hampton Court in 1996 - -it was my first visit to Britain in my life!
Of course, we went to the Maze there - got inspired by reading Jerome.K.Jerome´s Three Men in the Boat, laughed ourselves silly and promptly got lost -  with my students and my colleagues. Since this trip, my holidays destination was almost only Britain! :-)

Does the article say how long these celebrations go on, I would love to go and take part but I am animal sitting for Easter week, which starts April 12th and the first 2 days are liable to be so crowded you wouldn't be able to move let alone take all the photos I would want. On the bright side there will be an empty house near a railway that would get you to London for the day (probably at an enormous cost) if you could make it over for that week.

The article says only about the opening of the event on 10th April but number of lectures and exhibitions are to be till October. So I suppose all will be available still in summer. I do hope there will be more news about it. I enclose www.historytoday.com - it is possible you could learn more!
Indeed, my own desire to go is only a desire - I won´t be able to go because I have already arrange another trip but not to Hampton Court...
If you can go, use the chance, mmmm, only that Tudor gown itself is a wonderful idea:-)

I now want to make dolls dressed in Tudor costumes. :^) But am too lazy to be accurate.

I am sure the dolls will be magnificent as soon as you find some time and energy:-)

I have so much fabric (and laces and ribbons and buttons and...) and LOTS of lovely idea books (including a lot of historical costume books- some even with patterns I could resize up a bit from the pages to fit). I just need to be less scatter-brained. :^)

I might go in order to make a strong protest against the accession of Henry VIII to the English throne...
